MAIN EVENT ENTERTAINMENT IN GRAPEVINE TO HOST INTERNATIONAL BOWLING TOURNAMENT
Families To Roll for Thousands in College Scholarships
ARLINGTON, TEXAS – Main Event Entertainment, the leading family entertainment center in Texas is set to host the 34th annual QubicaAMF International Family Tournament (IFT) Friday and Saturday, July 31 – August 1 in Grapevine, according to the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America (BPAA).
Some 70 teams from 27 states, as well as Canada, will converge on North Texas to compete in the Parent/Youth (35 teams) and Parent/Teen (35 teams) divisions at the IFT. Each division's top 8 teams after Friday's competition advance to a 'Baker Game' match play final round on Saturday morning. At the conclusion of 8 games of match play, the top three teams in each division then compete in the 'Baker Game' stepladder finals in the afternoon to decide the titles. A banquet and trophy presentations will be held Saturday evening at the Sheraton Arlington Hotel near the International Bowling Campus.
Both first-place teams each win $5,000 scholarships to go towards their college education. Additional scholarships of $500 each for boys and girls in each division will also be awarded to Youth and Teen Division bowlers for bowling the highest six-game scratch total during the qualifying round. The overall scholarship purse is worth $70,000.
As an added treat, contestants and their families will be joined by professional bowlers Norm Duke, Mike Machuga and Bob Learn Jr. for autographs and a bowling trick shot demonstration Saturday afternoon and a Q & A and autograph session during the tournament banquet later that evening.
The professional women will be in Las Vegas the same weekend competing in the World Women’s Championship and will not be attending.
To qualify for the trip to Grapevine and a shot at scholarship dollars, contestants from across North America won their individual state competitions. The QubicaAMF IFT is the only sporting event in the United States in which parents participate with children and youth for an International Championship and scholarship funds.
